Biography
Jose Miguel Ruiz Verona, is a Land and Water Management Engineer, with broad experience in Natural Resources Management, particularly with Sustainable Land Management, Integrated Water Resource Management and Integrated Coastal Zone Management. Since 1990, he has carried out diverse assignments for different entities in different world settings: Latin-American, Europe and Asia. Some of the institutions to which he has been working for are Alterra Institute, Wageningen University, University of Seville, UNESCO, and Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), The Philippines Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the Indonesian’s Ministry of Public Work. Jose Miguel is currently working as Technical Adviser in the field of water management for the German Organization Welthungerhilfe. Obtained his B.Sc. Honour Degree at Van-Hall University of Applied Science in the Netherlands, Specialization graduate course in Hydraulic Infrastructure Development at University of San Simon, Bolivia and M.Sc. Degree at the European School for Environmental Studies, Spain. Otherwise has followed other courses related to Natural Resources Management and Climate Change (E. g. Disasters and Ecosystems: Resilience in a Changing Climate, GIS Tools for Water Basin Management, etc). Jose Miguel is member of the well-known organization International Water Association (IWA).Some of the important assignment in which Jose Miguel has participated are as follows: Abay Bay Integrated Coastal Zone Management Mater Plan, The Philippines; Sustainable Management of Coastal Resources in Caraga and Bicol Regions, The Philippines; Promoting Sustainable Development and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation at Mount Isarog Natural Park, the Philippines; Cities and Flooding, A Guide to Integrated Urban Flood Risk Management for the 21st Century; and A Study into the Biology, Physical, Geography and Human Activities of the Batutegi Nature Reserve (Lampung, Sumatra, Indonesia). In terms of Publications, Jose Miguel has published the "Study of Vulnerability, Environmental Risk and Mitigation Works at the sub-river basin of El Tránsito, El Salvador, (2001)¨, Ecotechnologies for Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation and currently working in a manual for erosion control and prevention.
