Biography

Prof. Yongming Luo is the director of the East Asia Node, Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOICZ), and the executive deputy director of Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (YIC-CAS). He is also the director of the Key Laboratory of Coastal Environmental Processes and Ecological Remediation, CAS. He obtained his PhD degree in soil chemistry at the Queen’s University of Belfast in the UK, and was preferentially enrolled by the “100-Talents Program” of CAS in 1997. Since 1998, he has been a professor of the Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Nanjing. During the period from 2008 to 2011, he was also the director of the Key Laboratory of Soil Environment and Pollution Remediation, CAS. He was appointed as a vice director and professor at YIC-CAS in 2011, and the director of YIC-CAS in 2013.

Research Interest

Research interests of Dr. Yongming Luo mainly focus on coastal soil environment and pollution remediation, regional environmental quality and risk management. He has more than 20 years of experience in fundamental and applied researches with more than 400 (co-)authored scientific papers and 14 books. He has also obtained 18 patents in China. In the last decade, he has headed more than 30 large (inter)national multidisciplinary research projects which includes 5 projects of international cooperation with the UK, Germany, the Netherland, Australia and Japan funded by Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST), National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). Furthermore, Dr. Yongming Luo holds several important academic positions both in China and abroad. He was awarded the “National Outstanding Young Scientist” by NSFC in 2001 and the chief scientist of the National Key Basic Research Program (“973” Program) by MOST (2002-2008). He was also the expert group member of National High-Tech Research and Development Program (“863” Program) in the field of Resource and Environment of MOST (2001-2010), the consultant member and deputy group leader for the National Soil Contamination Survey of Ministry of Environmental Protection of China (2006-2011), and the director of Soil Environment Specialized Committee of the Soil Science Society of China (2004-2012). At present, Dr. Yongming Luo is the consultant expert group member of “973” Program and the chief scientist of “863” Major Program “Contaminated Soil Remediation Technologies and Demonstration” (2012-2016) of MOST. He also serves as an executive member of the Soil Science Society of China, an executive member of the Oceanography Society of China, member of the Committee of the International Phytotechnology Society, and member of international “Future Coast” plan. He is also on the editorial board of the Acta Pedologica Sinica and the International Journal of Phytoremediation.
